Michelle Verwiel @ Aaiko Office

Aaiko Architecture moodboard

“The World is your oyster” is one phrase that I try and remind myself about every morning as I awake. My name is Michelle Verwiel and I am a Fashion Communication and Promotion student at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.  I was instantly attracted to the Aaiko Spring/Summer 2011 magazine for its aesthetically pleasing layout and of course its beautiful array of worldly collected materials, patterns and colour palettes. Hereby I contacted them immediately for an internship possibility. With a chance to do two weeks with the PR and styling department, I was welcomed into the world of Aaiko with open arms.

I have recently started designing and creating my own jewellery, and this is how my interest in Aaiko’s collections came about.  My pieces are made of cast aluminium and brass metals which, due to the nature of the moulding process, are hereby 100% handmade making each piece unique in its own way. Aaiko’s collections surround earthy tones fused with detailed cultural patterns and shapes. Because I am a jewellery designer my attention to detail such as use of texture and utilizing earth’s natural tones, Pauline and my own creations blend well together. Above all Aaiko’s powerful ethos, attire for the powerful feminine individual is one I aspire to!

At the moment I am characterizing Aaiko’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection through the identification of textures, architecture and environment. Here are three inspirational moodboards exploring the collection.

Kwaheri!
