At ‘an evening with Mattijs’ I was attending the evening both back- and front stage.  I experienced the excitement before the shows and met the designers.

 Mattijs van Bergen en Pauline Brakenhoff designed a special collection called Aaiko loves Mattijs. This collection is all about the well-known designs (plissé) from Mattijs and the atmosphere and over-all feeling of Aaiko.

 The cold, but white wonderland outside couldn’t stop the fashionable guests as they arrived to the Heineken Music Hall for ‘an evening with Mattijs’.  This night was arranged especially for Dutch designer Mattijs van Bergen, who has established a lot of international fame in the last few years. After a short break he is back for good!

Tonight he has to fulfill all the expectations, because this Sunday night he has his first come back.So backstage, the excitement wasn’t hard to catch.These few hours before the big show are a bit stressful for designers. Everything has to be perfect and it’s almost always very crowded backstage.  But Mattijs was quiet and awaiting. He felt that the dozens of people backstage knew what to do and when to do it. Hairdressers, model dressers, photographers, film crews, stylists and many more, worked all morning and afternoon and right before the show, they were all backstage for the final touch. It was one big stylish and tense crowd.

 It must have been a great feeling for Mattijs that all the people around him adjudge this big moment. He was not standing alone, for the first show of the evening, Mattijs had experienced co-designer Pauline Brakenhoff by his side.

Mattijs en Pauline did the final touch of the clothing together just before the model was called by Bastiaan van Schaik to walk the runway.

 It takes two to Tango and Pauline and Mattijs showed how a designer collaboration can work out very well. The over-all look of the collection for autumn/winter 2012/13 is subtle color blocking, powerful garments and a touch of romance.
